About CanVFXuse
What is CanVFXuse?
CanVFXuse is a community-maintained reference site that tells you at a glance whether a plugin, renderer, or integration works with your version of a DCC (Digital Content Creation) application — Houdini, 3ds Max, Unreal Engine, Rhino 3D, and more.
It's inspired by caniuse.com, the browser compatibility reference for web developers, but adapted for the VFX, animation, and architectural visualization world.
How to read the table
Each row is a plugin or feature. Each column is a software version. The cell shows the compatibility status:
Tip: Click any cell or plugin name to see detailed notes, plugin versions, the builds of each version, the install guide and links to the official documentation.
My stack: find your safe upgrade
On each software page, tick the plugins your pipeline depends on. My stack then tells you the newest version you can upgrade to without breaking any of them, and which plugin blocks the versions above it. The selection is kept in the page link, so you can share your stack with your team before a studio-wide upgrade.
Data sources
Compatibility data is gathered from multiple sources:
- Official vendor documentation and release notes
- Vendor support forums and community pages
- Direct testing by contributors
- User-submitted corrections via the contact form
Compatibility entries are maintained in dedicated data files and reviewed before publication. Internal tooling also helps monitor selected vendor sources for version updates.
How to contribute
There are several ways to help keep this project accurate and up to date:
- Send a correction via the contact form when you spot outdated or missing data
- Share validated compatibility info from your own pipeline or testing environment
- Report incorrect data via the contact form
- Request a new DCC — if your software isn't listed, let us know!
- Share the site with colleagues and your studio community
